Dimensions
Dimensions are the data-grouping parameters of a report. They define the breakdowns metrics are shown by: date, campaign, device, geography, and so on.
What dimensions are
Dimensions are non-numeric data attributes that metrics are grouped by. Each dimension adds a column to the output sheet. The combination of dimensions determines row uniqueness.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Open the dimensions list
In the builder, go to the Data > Dimensions section. The system shows the list of dimensions available for the selected entity.
2. Select dimensions
Check the boxes for the dimensions you need. Recommendations:
- At least one dimension is required (usually date or campaign)
- Don't select too many — every combination creates a separate row
- The order of dimensions affects the default sorting
3. Configure the order
Drag dimensions to change the column order in the output. The first dimension becomes the first column, the second becomes the second column, and so on.
4. Use search
If there are many dimensions, use the search field to filter the list by name in real time.
Types of dimensions
- Time-based — Date, Month, Quarter, Year, Week
- Structural — Campaign, AdGroup, Ad, Keyword
- Attribute-based — Device, Network, Placement
- Geographic — Country, Region, City
- Custom — custom parameters and labels
How to verify
- Make sure at least one dimension is selected
- Check that the selected dimensions are compatible with the metrics (some combinations are invalid)
- Run the report and check that the expected dimension columns appear in the output sheet
